STRATEGIC PLAN FOR RESEARCH & INNOVATION

School of Medicine

European University Cyprus

  1. Duration: 2018-2028
  2. Vision statement: Bridging the gap between Academia and the Private Sector by Achieving Translational Research Excellence.

III. Pillars of Research Excellence:

  • Catalyzing excellence and innovation: Within the School of Medicine (SM), all divisions pursue excellence in their field of expertise. Collaborations with other research groups within the SM and beyond contribute to ongoing success.
  • Implementation and integration: Each research track within the SM has its focus, but all share a common long-term vision on implementation and integration into clinical practice and health care. Collaborative translational projects include research from bench to bedside, while others focus on development and exploitation of innovative technologies.
  • Education and training: MSc, PhD and Post-Doctoral Programs will be developed in cutting edge areas. Students will receive training through research and dedicated courses; they will be actively involved in departmental research and will be encouraged to follow an MSc and/or PhD track.
  • Academia-Private Sector Partnerships: Faculty members will actively pursue their personal development, as well as collaboration and networking with key-stakeholders in the private sector. Joint translational research efforts will result in the development of products and services from bench to bedside.
  1. Cross-Cutting priorities:

Encourage coordination and partnership at all levels. Coordination is central to all efforts to design, implement and evaluate translational research.  Coordination must happen at SM level (between divisions, faculty members, faculty members and students), as well as at regional, national and international levels and across sectors and organizations working in the field (intersectoral) or from different fields (interdisciplinary).  Partnerships should involve key-stakeholders such as government partners, health advocates, representatives of medical and research associations and entities, EU-health policy bodies, ICT for health networks and patient organizations.

Global Engagement: Engagement with key-strategic partners and networks to sustain and develop our international presence.

  • Campaign for international students across markets
  • Promote and Communicate Schools’ current international activities and global engagement to support future international recruitment
  • Support re-integration of our international students into their native healthcare systems by making them competitive for residency-matching programs (electives, mentorship, agreement)
  • Promote international engagement in clinical training & graduate education partnerships.

Communication and Dissemination: Research activities and achievements should be disseminated on high-reputed scientific journals as well as in national and international conferences. Apart from these, research and clinical evidence should be communicated in national and international fora and at different audiences to increase public awareness and give visibility to the SM.

Personal development: Through the support of EUC and other initiatives, SM faculty should pursue personal development in the field of research, by actively participating in different activities and by expanding their network.

  1. Main Research Areas:
